At last month's NAMM's "Ultimate Jam Night", Lloyd Grant, the guitarist who played on the original recording of the METALLICA song "Hit The Lights" in early 1982, reflected on how he hooked up ... We caught up with Lloyd to talk the early 80s when Metallica were little more than a glint in a determined Dane's eye and just how he ended up playing guitar on the original version of Hit The Lights which closed 1982’s Metal Massacre compilation album – the very first song Metallica recorded. Lloyd Grant, the guitarist who played lead guitar on Metallica’s first-ever recording, said he’d have approached it differently if he’d known what it was going to achieve. One of the musicians who played a pivotal role in the band’s infancy was guitarist Lloyd Grant, who recorded a solo for an early version of Hit the Lights, the track that introduced Metallica to the world on Metal Blade’s 1982 Metal Massacre compilation album.
